Fennin Ro, 1999 - 2002

My first char was actually a SK... took him to 50 before Kunark came out, then quit for a while.  Came back for a little bit on a buddy's account, picked up the Breath of Harmony from Sebilis randomly, instantly rolled a bard (Had gotten bards to 5 or 10, but never stuck with them).  Add in a fungus tunic and full lambent, ench/cleric/mage plvling team, and I was 55 in just over 3 days played.

That's about it; had fun until 60, then school took over, couldn't keep up with EQ's expansion pace, tried DAoC, tried WoW, lurked on the beta boards for a few years, and I'm here to stay.

70 Bard with some aa's I think less than 100. I played on Firiona Vie.

My greatest achievements were: learning to swarmkite, learning cc, and becoming a badass pullin mofo

Various incarnations of Darris/Darrisven across 4 servers from 1999-2003.  Highest bard I got was 59 on Bertoxx.  Never really uber-raided and had a ton of fun just exploring.

Best solo "moment" for me was single-handedly wiping almost every single XP group in DL with Veeshan.  I think I still have the pictures from that.

Honorable mentions: Acquiring an entire suit of lambent solo before the Singing Steel craze took hold/Solo camping the Assassin in Guk for my mask of deception(back when it was tradable)

Favorite group gags: Randomly throwing out Melifluous Motion on the group while running through the plains then blaming it on a GM.

Most memorable moment: Taking part in the 8th shawl quest with the guildies and the giants.  Man was that stuff just epic or what?

Quit right after the froglock expansion came out as the game just got stale for me.

I still remember a lot of you old timers from EQDiva and the concert hall.  Great to see so many of you have returned!

Favorite Idol: Fansy.  The man was a god.

I stumbled across the old Fansy website a few weeks back.  Fansy was just about the best bard ever  ;)

70 Bard from Povar here  ;D

Stopped playing a couple of months ago, when TSS was released. Still love the game, just don't have time to raid anymore. Need something more casual... that's where Vanguard comes in!

I already had carpal tunel before EQ, so the thought of twisting made me scream.  I wanted to play a bard so badly in EQ though...I remember the first time I saw one, he was swarm kiting undead outside of Unrest.  Virtually amazing.  I ended up playing an Enchanter, then during PoP PL'd a wizard up as well and 2 boxed, I was so happy to see a non-twisting format as I could finally "Live the life of bardic adventure"

Flayre N'Grayce 70 bard from Torvonnilous ... Before it merged with Fennin Ro =D

Played my bard from Feb 2001 till 2004 then quit for a bit and back in to help rebuild the guild in 2005. Tribe of Ancients, Dawn of Liberty, Shadowed Illuminations, Path of Light were all my newbie guilds, House Archon was my raiding guild, was there for most of my time as a bard =) When I retired I joined Truly Naught Troop to settle down.

Here's my magelo http://eq.magelo.com/profile/444349

I guess my crowning moment in EQ was back when we were still raiding Tier 2 in Planes of Power. Mithaniel Marr was our target and for some reason he all of a sudden downed our MT and ST... and guess who was up on the aggro list? =D We still had 25% to go on his health and damned if I didn't keep aggro and stay alive the whole time *lol* After that no one could convince me I wasn't a tank. =P My guild clerics loved it (not!)

Second to that was CC'ing in Karnor's Castle... keeping 4 mez'd and still be playing a battle song was awesome, prevented trains all the time. I was master of KC hehe. Till Vinka came along, love that bard... I'd let her twist and I'd do CC... if you keep 'em across the room you can do 6 (just let them take a step forward at a time =) )

Everyone remembers their Trakanon raids for their epic though... and 6 hour naked Fear CR's.. fearlessly zoning in solo to train/swarm everything away from the zone only to have one of the 3 DT'ers get your rezzers hehe

Ya know what though, breaking into VT as a guild for the first time was probably the second best feeling. It took the guild 6months to key everyone. =X Oh and I loved raiding Ssra... knew that place like the back of my hand

I think the other thing my guild mastered was T6 in uhh GoD expansion I think (everything after LDoN blended together didn't it?). We kept corpses at the entrance with the keys... I'd lead our group up the mountain in the instance we'd only have to kill 5 things or something.. House Archon full on mastered that trial *lol*

Other fond memories... lull'ing our way through Bastion of Thunder towers (pre-nerf), Plane of Fire pulls, swarm kiting Nightmare, figuring out the PoP flag progression >.<, our first Tantisala kill in Plane of Earth, RSS, Crushbone, Unrest, fabled Old world mobs who kick your @$$ when you're not looking... runnign drunk across Kithicor at night.. all the fun times =)

Oh man.. too many memories y'all... just don't have time to raid anymore, and truly EQ isn't the same now as it was even 3 years ago

65 bard in my hayday of Arch Overseers on Bristlebane server.

greatest achievement? eh, i dunno i liked having a monopoly on all small groupr aid targets in the world and having a net income of over 100kpp a day killing dragons and such.
i also liked gating and fading the minibosses during coirnav's event.

i quit shortly after we beat quarm a few times.

My bard was named Theodir Resonant on the Tribunal Server. I had him up to level 70 with 600ish AA's.

Only thing i miss on him is my singing short sword. I loved that damn thing. I hope Sigil put's in something like that.

There are 4 Fansys on VG. One is on Flamehammer.

I did ask if he was THE Fansy from EQ1 a long time ago when I first started playing VG and saw him running around the DE newbie area (who didn't know of his antics on there, his web site is hillarious). Unfortunately not, but he did say he got lots of tells asking that very question.  :)

So with recent announcements that alternate ruleset servers are under consideration anyone think they'll finally make at least one classic only server?

Checking the epic thread at SOE official EQ forums it seems that their devs have made another vague yet hope-inspiring statement.  According to the devs with the release of the new expansion this past week they will be able to focus on developing rulesets for possible new servers.  Let us pray they make a server that is Classic only, or failing that, at least a server which stops at Kunark.

So cool to see so many EQ Bards, I've always had a soft spot for the class.  My main was a rogue on Povar (and then Xev) and I was part of a long-standing bard/rogue duo pretty much from pre-Kunark through LDON when we both retired from the game.  We did some amazing things as a duo, we also died in horribly nasty ways as a result of our antics.   (Invis song + SOS = bad!)  And yep, we both had the high elf mask before we retired.  I couldn't let my melodic buddy go without!  :jig:

Not sure whether Sony will ever do an EQ Classic Server, but I'm still watching their site.  Right now www.eqclassic.org (the pirate server that was to be Classic, Kunark, and Velious only with everything true to the original and no custom content) has been shut down.  They don't say by whom, but they cite "legal issues", so I'm guessing once the EQClassic project had 4000 registered members on their forums and a large chunk of those quite active it became quite an embarrassment for SOE (and the way they've mismanaged their game for so many years).

The question becomes, now that Sony has seen how many folks were signed up for that private server will they see the light and realize that there are thousands who would come back and pony up the sub fees to play classic again?  Or were they just trying to silence their critics and pray that we forget about how good the game used to be?  I hope it is the former, and that they release a classic ruleset before the WoW expansion (man I hate WoW) come out to try to cut into Blizzard's sub numbers.

I can think of like 10 people I know who would all come back if EQ went classic.  Now take every one of those 4000 registered and multiply by the friends they have who weren't registered but who would come back, and you'll have a heck of a busy server (or two!)

I thought they did do a "classic" server not long ago.  I could've sworn they reactivated my account to celebrate this new server and I remember dying in the rivervale newbie zone and sheepishly telling my old EQ friends that I had forgotten how beat up we got in the early days when we had absolutely nothing gear-wise.  Wait, it's coming back to me now, it was the progression server.  Isn't that kind of the same thing as a classic server?

I don't know if I'd play again.  While I certainly do wax poetic about the "good old days" it's easy for me to forget how many sheer hours I spent glued to my computer, or in the case of my early enchanter glued to my spellbook.  I don't know if I have the energy to do that all over again!

So SOE sent out an e-mail mid-December saying to visit www.eqplayers.com in January for announcements and a public poll to be taken about what a new 10th anniversary server should be be.

The server will be started up in March 2009 to celebrate 10 years of EQ.  Let us hope that EQ Classic Only is an option.  And then let us all go vote for Classic EQ and travel again as we once did in the lands of Norrath.
